Biography

Ishwaria Subbiah, MD, MS, FASCO, is a US-based palliative care & integrative medicine physician and medical oncologist. A strategic healthcare leader with 15+ years of direct patient care together with progressive scientific and administrative leadership experience, she holds a successful track record of building evidence-based enterprise-wide programs while championing workforce sustainability and wellbeing. Fellowship-trained in Developmental Therapeutics, Medical Oncology, and Palliative Medicine at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Subbiah rose to Associate Professor, spearheading the development of the EHR-integrated remote symptom monitoring program which handles 50,000+ monthly remote patient interactions. Dr. Subbiah served in inaugural wellbeing leadership roles at MD Anderson, SCRI, and US Oncology, where she developed the multistate network’s first comprehensive clinician wellbeing strategic plan, complete with rigorous measurement framework and CMS-compliant wellbeing action plans. She was named a 2024 National Academy of Medicine Well-Being Change-Maker and advised the US President's Cancer Panel on healthcare professional wellbeing. A global leader in healthcare professional well-being, geriatric oncology, and supportive care, Dr. Subbiah was recognized as Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). She serves on ASCO Supportive Care Guidelines panel and is past chair of ASCO State of Cancer Care in America and Women in Oncology programs. She serves as Associate Editor for JCO Oncology Practice, and previously Associate Editor at the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI) and JNCI Cancer Spectrum. Her career across academic centers, county health systems, research institutes, and community networks reflects her commitment to advancing both the patient and workforce experience.
