Biography

Dr Peter Lau is an early career medical oncology clinician-scientist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Post Doctorate Immuno-Oncology Fellow at Harry Perkins Institute for Medical Research. Previously he was appointed as a medical oncologist in the Melanoma and Skin Service at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre from 2015-2020. He completed his laboratory based PhD at University of Melbourne which focused on developing combinations of targeted therapy with adoptive cell transfer alongside investigating mechanisms of immunotherapy resistance in melanoma brain metastases. Additionally Dr Lau has been instrumental in leading the CHARLI Phase II Australian multi-centre clinical trial examining the utility of denosumab with immune checkpoint inhibitors in melanoma. Dr Lau is a principal investigator of multiple first in human, melanoma and breast phase I to III trials and is the clinical lead for the development of tumour infiltrating lymphocyte cell therapy at Herry Perkins. He is an emerging researcher with over 25 peer reviewed journal articles including Journal for Immunotherapy for Cancer, European Journal of Cancer, Clinical Cancer Research.
